About the Product

LookingGlass is a standalone News Round-Up generation tool that enables news organisations to provide mobile-friendly news formats to their readers. In each News Round-Up, news stories can be curated with the aim to alleviate news fatigue for busy readers.

Besides the main spotlight article, the News Round-Up also features automatically generated past coverage from the same news organisation as well as video coverage. Global coverage from other news organisations is an optional feature that users can opt for to provide a broader array of perspectives. Users can also embed a tweet to allow topic engagement on their social media.

The LookingGlass is designed to enable easy sharing. Organisations need only upload the website URL to their respective social media platforms to enable readers' easy access to the site.

Key Features

Curated Contents: News editorial team can curate content depend on their needs and readers' interest

Multiple perspectives and content format on the issue:

  • main article feature
  • past coverage on the related issue covered by the same news organisation (only pertaining for our anchored news organisation)
  • twitter embedding to enhance the timeliness of the issue and allow further topic engagement to social media
  • global coverage (optional) to search for related coverage by other news organisation
  • Video coverage to provide a different media to interact with the content or topic featured

Future Iterations

We hope to improve the product through further iterations:

1. Provide selective global coverage: Currently the global coverage is done through google news search without any content filtering from a particular news organisation. It would be good if we can display only desired news partners' content

2. Provide a history of Roundup: To enable an archive function for readers to refer to past LookingGlass page of the same news oragnisation

3. Provide bookmark and sharing of Looking Glass link: The ability to allow the readers to easily bookmark the page url and share the link via social media networking is crucial to promote the tool and acquire more readers.
